  • Master grad with interest in Web development. Suggestions on how to apply for job?

Posted by admin on March 11th, 2010 and filed under web development | 2 Comments »

I do have a Masters grad. But I do not really have any solid experience in JAVA and Web development. Thought I am interested in the field, I am experienced only for about 6 months in it. Any help on who to approach, how to apply for jobs, websites to search from, where to submit resumes etc. ?

    Many thanks.

You will need more experience than that to actually get a well paid web development job. First, volunteer your time and skills to companies looking for people to build websites for free. With a masters degree and 6 month experience, they’ll think you’re a steal. Get more experience thru there if possible.

If this is not an option, then look at job sites such as indeed.com, monster.com, dice.com and look for entry-level web development jobs.

You can make any web site you want using nothing but the free software…

    Download Trellian WebPage (Free): http://www.trellian.com/webpage/download.htm

Mac users might want to download BBedit Lite, a more powerful, and free mac text editor: http://www.barebones.com/products/bbedit_lite.html

Free Mac Web Design Software: http://web-design.lovetoknow.com/Free_Mac_Web_Design_Software

Just a matter of learning how to do it properly and NOT let the editor do all the work as you will need to hand code some pages at times.

Is web development a good career to choose?

Posted by admin on March 7th, 2010 and filed under web development | 3 Comments »

Will there be sustained/increased demand for web development professionals in the near and far future?

I would suggest that web developers will definitely be in demand in the future. The web is growing faster than any other creative industry. As the internet gets faster, the web will be far less restrictive than it is now and developers will be needed to do the ‘other’ part of the creative/ad cycle. It is also well paid. Not many people have the skills that a developer possesses, so you become a valuable asset to a creative team – and they’ll pay to keep you around.

I’ve just finished my high school. And now I’m trying to find something interesting to do. Learning a new programming language is an option. I can write C++ and VB 6 programs. Now I want to learn a language that will be helpful in web development. Please suggest which one should I choose?

Computer (or Management) Information Systems if offered, if not Computer Science
They offer not only the computer aspect of the web development, but a management and marketing side to it as well.
