Morning. If you do it just before dark, there is more opportunity for mold or fungus to grow.

Before the sun comes up or after the sun starts setting, preferably the evening watering. As the sun rises, so would evaporation. Lawns would gain and retain moisture at dusk and dawn.

I always wait until the sun goes down and the air around is cool so the water stays on the lawn as long as possible. In California, we have serious water problems so we have to make every drop count. If you water at night, you also get the benefit of the dew and fog water going into the already wet ground rather than staying on top. I wish you luck with your lawn. Mine is weeds at the moment with a few blades of grass. May you not have this problem, ever!!

in the mornings or evenings for about 20mins. watering during the day can actually damage you lawn and dry it out

Evening is really the best. Second best is EARLY A.M….but if you water at night there is a lot less evaporation and so you will get the biggest benefit…Also to keep your grass greener, make sure you water after you mow. When you cut off the tops of the blades of grass if there is not sufficient water, the tops can burn and turn brown.

According to the web site, water your lawn early in the day. Water will evaporate when it is too hot. However, do not water late in the evening to avoid promoting mildew or fungus growth. For other lawn watering tips, visit the web site.

The best time of day is early evening , around dinner time. That way you won’t fry your grass , your grass won’t grow fungus, therefore less diseases and it will have time to dry before nightfall!

The best time to water grass (or anything else), particularly during the summer, is very early in the morning. This will give the water time to be absorbed by the grass/plants and ground before the sun becomes too stron, but not having it sit on the blades of grass for too long. Doing it in the evening has the problem of the water sitting on the grass/plants too long and potentially allowing fungus or disease to develop or spread. If you have a sprinkler system this is easy to do – just set the time for 5 or 6am. Alternatively, you can buy programmable timers fairly inexpensively to attach to your outddor faucets that can accomplish the same thing.

The best time is just before dawn. That gives the water a chance to soak in and any left on the leaves will dry up and not cause problems. Also the wind in Montana can be a real problem as you well know. There is less wind then and less drift of the water.

early morning and late nights are good times but when it is excessivly hot out the grass needs to be cooled down with a light syringing event especially if it is hot and windy.
