The original trail goes from the mountains to Old Town but it's been cut up due to the roads. There are maps that the library may have on how to do the trail, but it's like trying to follow Route 66, almost impossible to do from beginning to end. There has been a push to eventually have a continuous trail. The ones in Mission Valley usually have homeless out and about.
References :
You know what...I don't think there is a trail! There are parts of the river in Mission Valley where there is a dry bank, picnic tables set up, etc., but I don't think there is one continuous trail that traces the river for any distance. I could be wrong...but even on the River's Park Foundation website...

...there is no mention of a continuous trail.
