what neighborhood is the best place for tourist to stay in san diego?

my friends and i are planning a trip to san diego in october and we were wondering where is the best place to stay in san diego for tourist. we would love to be in the center of everything and possibly drive to los angeles.

were from oahu, hawaii and in hawaii waikiki is the main tourist spot so we were looking for something similar where toruists would stay at in san diego.

how is mission valley? is it really a place where most tourist stay at?

It really depends on what you want to do and how you want to spend your time.

Mission Valley has a lot of hotels and is sort of centrally located, but there’s not a lot to do in the immediate vicinity. You’re not too far from things like the Zoo, downtown, Old Town, Sea World, etc., however.

If you want the higher end shopping and restaurants (sort of like Waikiki), you might look into La Jolla. And that would be good for some beaches and snorkeling as well, but it’s a little farther from other things.

And if you want to stay in a busy downtown area right next to the ballpark, good restaurants, etc. as well (and still relatively close to things) you might look at places like the Omni (hotel) downtown. Depending on timing, you could hit crowds at the Convention Center across the street, however.
