Windows Registry is not the easiest and simplest mechanism to deal with. Software can create number of keys all over the registry database, and more then often these keys do not directly refer to the software it belongs to... In my opinion, CCleaner is mild and safe, the registry cleaner in Advanced System Optimizer is more thorough but still pretty safe, and one called RegSeeker is more on the overzealous side.
